PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After a weekend sweep over Connecticut, the Providence College men’s hockey team held firm at No. 5 in the latest national polls released on Monday (Feb. 15).

The Friars have been ranked in 81 consecutive USCHO.com polls dating back to Feb. 25, 2013 and remain fifth in the current PairWise rankings.

Freshman Hayden Hawkey’s first career shutout backstopped the Friars to a 4-0 win over the Huskies on Friday night.  On Saturday, John Gilmour’s two goals paced the Friars to a 3-2 win at the XL Center.  Mark Jankowski notched his 100th career point, while Head Coach Nate Leaman became the fastest Friar coach to record 100 wins.

Up next, Providence will host No. 7 and Hockey East leader Notre Dame for a pair this weekend at Schneider Arena.  This weekend will mark the first doubleheader at Schneider Arena between top-10 teams since Oct. 25-26, 2013 against Miami when the Friars earned a win and a tie over the RedHawks.
