Uber driver arrested for DUI in Tiverton on New Year’s Day

TIVERTON, R.I. (WLNE)- An Uber driver was arrested early on Saturday morning and charged with a DUI, according to the Tiverton Police Department.
Police said that 41-year-old Carlos Cordova, of Warwick, was pulled over by an officer while driving on Fish Road because one of the headlights on his vehicle was out.
The officer pulled over Cordova, who then told him that he was an Uber driver and that he was currently driving two passengers.
Police said that the officer was able to smell alcohol on Cordova’s breath and then asked him to get out of the vehicle at which point he stumbled.
Cordova then performed poorly on the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and a Preliminary Breath Test. He yielded a Blood Alcohol Consent of .228%, nearly three times the legal limit.
He was arraigned by a bail commissioner and released on $1000 surety bail.
Cordova is scheduled to appear in Newport District Court on Thursday.
