Rhode Island College has reported an increase in gastrointestinal illnesses at the school to the Rhode Island Department of Health, suspecting a possible outbreak of Norovirus.

The school sent out an advisory to students, faculty, and staff, Thursday saying nine students have reported an abrupt onset of symptoms, including nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, which are consistent with Norovirus. Though, the school says there have been no confirmed cases as of yet.

The DOH says these cases correspond to an increase in Norovirus incidents in the greater Rhode Island community and are not unusual occurrences during the winter months.

RIC health services say testing is being done and may take a few days to confirm. They ask that anyone who may be experiencing symptoms to contact Health Services at (401) 456-8061, or visit their website.
