A Central Falls family is desperate for help in finding the man who’s on the run – accused of driving drunk when he hit and killed their brother.
The suspect is now on Rhode Island’s Most Wanted list.
51-year-old Gary Laramee was killed while crossing Roosevelt Avenue in Central Falls, where there’s now a roadside memorial.
His brother Michael says, "he had a heart of gold…he would do anything for anybody."
They say he was out collecting cans – a hobby he loved – on the morning of January 17, when police say he was hit by a drunk driver and left to die.
Laramee’s sister Amy says, "for someone who hits a person and leaves him there to die like he’s nothing…he has no compassion…he’s heartless."
While Laramee was in critical condition at the hospital, 53-year-old Rigoberto Vasquez of Attleboro was arraigned for DUI and leaving the scene of an accident, but he later posted bail.
Then, two days later, Laramee passed away and Vasquez faced more serious charges.
But, he never showed up to court. Now, he’s on Rhode Island’s Most Wanted list.
The family is seeking justice for their brother Gary by finding the man wanted for his death.
"It’s not gonna bring him back…but maybe it will bring us a little closure."
The family says they wish Vasquez wasn’t given bail. "I think they should’ve held the guy until further notice."
But for now, their focus is justice for their big brother.
"He ruined a lot of people’s lives…he didn’t just take my brother’s life…I don’t understand…I don’t understand it at all. It doesn’t make sense.”
Police say they can’t comment on the investigation at this point because it’s still ongoing, but they have issued a warrant for Vasquez’s arrest and if he’s found he will be brought back to court.
They’re asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to call them at 401–727–7411.
