The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office is investigating a homicide in Norton after a man stabbed his estranged wife to death Wednesday night.

Norton Police responded to a report of a woman stabbed at an apartment on Holmes Street. The victim and resident of the apartment, identified as 34-year-old Julie A. Meede, was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Minutes after the 911 call, police received reports of a two-car crash on Route 495 in Norton, where a pick-up truck traveling southbound crossed the grass median and drove into the northbound lane, colliding with another Nissan. The driver of the Nissan, a 30-year-old Smithfield woman, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

The operator of the pick-up was identified as Martin McDonald, 35, of Weymouth. According to the DA’s Office, McDonald is the estranged husband of the Holmes Street victim, Julie Meede.

McDonald is now charged in Meede’s murder. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday morning in Attleboro District Court.

Both incidents remain under investigation.
