Two men suspected of taking part in a shooting at Farmington Terrace apartment complex in Cranston have been arrested.

Bertram Wage, 34, of Warwick and Luis Lopez, 33, of Providence have both been taken into custody. The shooting took place on Jan. 23, shortly after 2:30 in the morning. Several 911 calls were fielded from residents who reported hearing gun shots. Officers discovered an unoccupied vehicle parked at the apartment complex with several bullet holes in it, as well as multiple shell casings. Witnesses were able to provide detailed descriptions of Ware, who fired the shots and fled from the scene in a different car.

Ware’s formal charges include license required to carry a pistol, firing in a compact area, vandalism and felony conspiracy. He was presented as a probation violator on a previous charge of violating a restraining order. Recently released from prison after serving time for the restraining order violation, Ware is also a known associate of the Providence street gang “Oriental Rascals.” He was arrested on Jan. 23, and is currently being held without bail.

Lopez was arrested this morning by the Rhode Island State Police violent Fugitive Task Force. He will be arraigned in the Third District Court on charges of license required to carry a pistol, firing in a compact area, vandalism, felony conspiracy and possession of a firearm after being convicted of a crime of violence. He, too, will be presented as a probation violator for a 2013 charge of possession of heroin with intent to deliver.

Investigators suspect that Ware’s motive was to retaliate against the owner of the damaged vehicle due to his relationship with Ware’s former girlfriend.
