As Sunday’s snow created slippery roads Monday morning, one man in Somerset is counting his blessings after a van came crashing into his front yard.
"We had to use the jaws, we had to use the cutters, we had to use all of our tools to get them out," said the Somerset Fire Lieutenant.
Officials say weather may be to blame for the accident on Lees River Avenue.
"It was all ice this morning," said the Lieutenant.
Two passengers in the van were sent to the hospital, one of them in critical condition after being trapped between the van and a tree.
Chris Messier, the homeowner, is now left with a wrecked front yard, but he is counting his blessings.
"At the time, I’m just praying that my kids weren’t waiting for the bus like they normally would be–right here. Thank God it was a holiday," says Messier.
Over in New Bedford, the icy slush in the roads caused the driver of an ATV to swerve into a parked car, breaking several of his bones.
Resident there got more than four inches of snow in total, leaving many to spend their holiday off work shoveling. Though, there is a silver lining.
"This is nothing compared to last winter," said resident, Chico Quinones. "That was a winter–this is nothing!"
