Warwick Police saved a local man’s life thanks to tourniquet training last November.
On Jan. 16, officers were dispatched to an apartment complex on Sandy Lane in Warwick after reports of a man yelling for help. The 41-year-old victim suffered severe bleeding after a laceration to his right arm. Officers Brian Chianese, Geoffrey Waldman and Aaron Kay were able to stop the bleeding with a tourniquet until rescue teams arrived to further assist the victim.
All officers in the Warwick Police Department received training in injury assessment and application of tourniquets for severe injuries back in November of last year. Ever since that training, all officers have been issued combat application tourniquets (CAT), which played a vital role in saving this man’s life. This was the first use of a tourniquet by Warwick Police after being issued the CAT.
