Elderly woman struck by car in Cumberland dies

Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident in Cumberland.

On Tuesday around 8 a.m., 81-year-old Irene Wilkinson, of Pawtucket, was struck by a vehicle on Mendon Road and suffered injuries to her head and knee. She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where she later died from her injuries.

The operator of the vehicle, 29-year-old Cumberland resident, Paul Carney, stopped at the scene and is cooperating with police.
