PROVIDENCE, RI –
Philip and Heather Bonin are first –time parents to their new son, and were elated Friday at the hospital. Their happy, healthy baby boy, has the honor of being the first baby born in Rhode Island, in 2016.
"Its pretty cool," Heather Bonin said.
Christopher David Bonin was welcomed to the world at 12:56 am.
"It felt like something was coming over me. Like wow, I made that. My wife and I made that,” said Philip Bonin.
Both parents told ABC-6 they were surprised to find out that their little guy was the first baby born in the Ocean State, in the new year.
"I never in a million years thought we would have the first new years baby of Rhode Island,” added Heather.
Christopher’s entrance into the world was a little bit tough on his mother, Heather, who after trying for two hours to push Christopher out the old fashioned way, had to have a c–section.
"I really didn’t want to have a c-section but nurses told me it would probably be the safest way,” she explained. But as of New Years Day, baby Christopher and Heather were both in good health. All three Bonins were ready to begin their lives as a family. "He’s perfect, that’s all I can say,” Heather said.
In Massachusetts, the first two babies born came into the world at 12:02 am at Tufts Medical Center. As of New Years Day, both mothers were doing well.
