Bristol Community College is opening up its newest satellite campus…inside the Silver City Galleria in Taunton.
In fact, they’re calling it a perfect example of public-private partnership.
BCC President John Sbrega, PhD, says, "the plans include a full service enrollment center…advising office…library…2 science labs, 3 computer labs…and office space. Gotta have office space."
What was once the check-out line at Old Navy become a chem lab for students.
The move is being called a win for all parties involved.
Barney McAuley with Tricom Real Estate says, "the existing tenants not only get customers…but also they will get potential employees…our mayor will get more tax revenue…this is a classic example of public private partnership."
That includes Taunton’s new casino. The new campus will house the casino lab for the college’s newly approved casino and hospitality management curriculum.
"Once we moved forward with the plans to come here…it was natural to bring the casino operations here."
And of course students can take advantage of their time out of the classroom.
“In between classes they’ll be able to eat study shop…whatever makes them happy and keeps them in class."
Classes are scheduled to begin late spring or early summer of this year.
