A plane headed to Bangor, Maine, made an emergency landing at T.F. Green Wednesday night. The Allegiant Airlines flight, which was on it’s way from Sanford, Florida, was having problems in the air.
Passengers at T.F. Green told said they smelled smoke, right before flight attendants told them the cabin was overheating, and that they’d need to make an emergency landing in Warwick.
Roughly 130 passengers were evacuated off the flight and greeted by fire trucks.
"My girls were sitting in the back and they said that it was really, really hot and smelt like smoke behind their seats," said passenger, Pilar Burmeister.
"It was very scary to know that we had a bunch of fire trucks and an emergency response," said passenger Patrick Crowley. "It opened my eyes that something serious was happening."
Passengers were never informed as to what exactly was happening on the flight, which was supposed to land in Bangor at 5:08 p.m.
"There was no explanation as to why we were landing. They just said we were making an emergency landing and that made people nervous," Andrew Maxsimic explained.
Many on the flight speculated some sort of electrical fire based on the smell of smoke. After everyone was evacuated, some frustrated fliers rented cars to make the rest of the trip on their own.
"We’re safe and we’re down and we’re here. So we’ll get home some way," added Seth Moores.
The passengers will be sleeping across the street at hotels, and will take another Allegiant aircraft to Bangor Thursday morning at 11 a.m. No official word on what caused the plane to make an emergency landing.
