A public memorial was held on Sunday to honor New Bedford’s late Police Chief.
The community gathered to remember Dave Provencher, who passed away suddenly last week. Provencher, who has 35 years of service with the city as chief, was recalled by his friends and colleagues for his professionalism and leadership.
Mayor Jon Mitchell worked side-by-side with the late chief and spoke of Provencher’s ability to make people laugh.
"His humor was quick and dry, silly. Irrevocably he was the butt of his own joke because as seriously as he took the job he did not take himself seriously," said Mitchell.
Provencher was laid to rest on Saturday and is buried at the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
