Santa clause made a special trip to Providence on Christmas morning. He surprises kids who are spending their holiday at Hasbro Children’s Hospital, with a visit from himself, his helpers, and also his star wars themed sleigh.

Ivan Fernandez, is spending his first Christmas away from home. He says having Santa stop in, was the holiday cheer he needed.

"It really brightens up the mood for all of the kids around here at Hasbro so it’s really just a good vibe,"says Fernandez.

Fernandez mom, Ingred, says she was happy to see Santa walk through the doors as well.

"I think it is beautiful. Even me I was so excited,"she says.

She says the visit helps to keep her positive spirit.

"I think that I am having quality time in here with my son. It’s okay you have to accept what god brings you,"she adds.

Now while he takes on the role as Santa on Christmas, during the other days of the year, Tom Tracey works as a pediatric surgeon at the hospital. For more than 10 years, he’s given up his own Christmas morning to brighten the day for patients.

"They’re either hurting or they need to get better. So, for us to bring a moment of fun into their lives, a moment of connection to Christmas that is going on that is so important to us,"says Tracy.

Tracy says his favorite part of the day and what motivates him to continue to do this year after year..
is seeing families like the Fernandezes, who stay together and positive even through the toughest times.
