Charitable Organization Presents $5,000 to Child Diagnosed with Leukemia

PAWTUCKET __ A family was presented with a check in the amount of $5000 dollars in an effort to help their little girl cope with living expenses while getting treatment for leukemia.

Twenty-month old Briana Leon was diagnosed with leukemia on July 7, 2015. Briana’s mother, Sandra, had to quit her job to stay home and care for Briana during treatment.

Robert P. Faherty, Superintendent-in-Chief, of the Boston Police Department (Retired), presented Briana’s family with the $5000 check .

The presentation took place at the Pawtucket City Hall. Pawtucket Mayor Donald R. Grebien attended the event, along with Chief of Police Paul King and several other city officials.

This is the second consecutive year that a Pawtucket family has received funds from Cops For Kids With Cancer (CFKWC). CFKWC is a non-profit charitable organization commenced by retired police officers.

Additionally, representatives of Love Your Melon, presented Briana’s family with hats, winter clothes and toys. Love Your Melon is an clothing brand arranged by college students nationwide.

"As a father, it is so touching to see this outpouring of support for such a young child and her family as she battles Leukemia,” stated Mayor Grebien.  “I want to thank and commend the work that Cops For Kids With Cancer and the Rhode Island College representatives from Love Your Melon have done for one of our residents here today. I cannot think of a better display of Holiday spirit than what I saw from these two groups this afternoon,” continued Grebien.
