Star Wars fans pack Providence theater for “The Force Awakens”

Excited fans are packing into theaters across southern New England Thursday night to be the first to see the new installment in the Star Wars saga.

Over at the Providence Place Mall, fans tells ABC6 that "The Force Awakens" didn’t disappoint.

Fans exiting the theater were beaming with excitement, as other eagerly lined up for the next showing. Not too many movie-goers were wearing costumes, which are permitted, as long as they exclude masks, face paint, and weapons. 

The film seemed to impress fans who had been waiting months to see it.

"It was great. The best Star Wars yet," exclaimed Cole Matthews.

"It was just suspenseful. I just loved it. It was crazy," said Nicholas Broccoli.

"It had a lot of twists but it came together in the end," said Logan Matthews.

"It came together at the end," said Aiden Forcier.

"I thought it was awesome. It exceeded my expectations. I was surprised. Yes, there were quite a few things. In the third act it’s all surprises," explained Mike Ryan.

"I just wanted to say that there were moments in the film, there were characters, obviously, from past movies that came back and were reunited, and those moments were the most special for me," said Debralee Iacobcucci.
