It’s been a very good week for Viola Davis. The Rhode Island native has been nominated by the Screen Actors Guild and the NAACP for prestigious awards. In total Davis could take home 4 awards, including ‘entertainer of the year’ for her lead role in the hit ABC show ‘How To Get Away With Murder.’
“She’s a tremendous talent. She’s a hard worker. And she just projects well in terms of every role that she has,” said Jim Vincent, President of the Providence chapter of the NAACP.
Davis, who grew up in Central Falls, is also nominated for outstanding actress in a motion picture for ‘Lila and Eve,’ and outstanding actress in a drama series also for her lead role in ‘How To Get Away With Murder.’ Vincent says her nominations are empowering.
“She’s been making us proud for many years and now it seems like she is peaking in terms of the recognition,” said Vincent.
Davis is looking for a repeat win at the SAG Awards. The actress scored a nomination Wednesday for ‘outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series’.
“I was ecstatic, but not surprised because everyone knows how much she brings to the table as an actress,” said Steven Feinberg, Executive Director of the state’s film and TV office.
In order to becoming entertainer of the year, Davis will have to beat out Shonda Rhimes, among others. Rhimes is the woman who created the show ‘How To Get Away With Murder.’
ABC nabbed the most nominations among TV networks for the 47th NAACP Image Awards with a total of 28.
