A Providence woman who was convicted of violently shaking and throwing her six-week-old child in 2011 was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in prison with 18 to serve.
Prosecutors say 29-year-old Danielle Lefebvre shook and threw her son so violently that it caused bleeding of the brain, a complex skull fracture, numerous rib fractures, and caused the baby to have seizures.
The injuries suffered by the child caused permanent brain damage and delayed development. He has since been adopted.
Lefebvre claimed that when she brought her son to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in October of 2011, she found the baby crying on the bedroom floor when she awoke.
It was determined that the injuries were consistent with child abuse. Lefebvre later admitted that she shook and threw her son to police and DCYF.
Lefebvre was convicted back in March. She will not be eligible for parole for eight and a half years.
