SWANSEA, Mass. – An active shooter situation in Swansea turned deadly Sunday night, putting an entire neighborhood on lockdown and sending in a SWAT team.

The shooter, 24 year-old Brandon Leonardo, of Swansea, killed himself before officers could get a hold of him, according to Swansea Police Chief George Arruda. Leonardo was an ex-marine.

Earlier, the man shot at his ex-girlfriend in the Ocean Grove neighborhood before fleeing. She wasn’t hit.

Police then set up a perimeter, searching for him by air and by foot, when they heard two gunshots and eventually found the man dead.

His name hasn’t been released, pending notification of next of kin.
