Buildings and Grounds Director for Warwick schools fired, police investigating

The Warwick School Committee voted on Tuesday night to terminate the school system’s Buildings and Ground Director.

Superintendent Philip Thornton confirmed that the school committee unanimously voted for the termination of David LaPlante.

Thornton did not release much information about the firing, but said it had to do with "purchasing issues," and that he called Warwick Police to investigate after learning of the issues.

Police say a search warrant was executed at LaPlante’s house Monday and it is under investigation.
