PROVIDENCE — Providence College and the City of Providence announced the Providence College Junior Friars Partnership, a new initiative connecting PC’s student-athletes with students from Providence schools.
“This is a great opportunity for the young people of our city to learn from some of the nation’s finest student-athletes,” said Councilman David A. Salvatore (Ward 14). “I want to thank Father Shanley, Athletic Director Bob Driscoll, and everyone else at PC for creating this new partnership benefiting our children.”
Through the Junior Friars Partnership, students selected by the Department of Recreation will have the chance to attend PC athletic events, meet student-athletes, and learn important life lessons about physical activity, teamwork, and fair play.
Seven events have been selected and PC has agreed to provide 15 free tickets to each event. Recreation will provide transportation for students to and from the events.
““This is just the latest in a series of joint efforts between the Providence College Athletics Department and the City of Providence. Whether they are sponsoring youth basketball clinics, lending a helping hand at neighborhood park clean-ups, or providing positive role models for area children through this new partnership, PC has proven that they are serious about playing an active role in improving the quality of life in our city.” said Salvatore
