Cranston Police are investigating an attempted child abduction in the city early Tuesday morning.

Police say a 12-year-old victim reported that he was walking to his bus stop near the intersection of Aqueduct and Bridgton Roads around 7:30 a.m. when a red, older model sedan pulled alongside him and the driver asked if he needed a ride.

The victim declined and the male operator exited the vehicle and chased him on foot. The victim was able to elude the man before arriving at the bus stop.

The suspect is described as a middle aged white male with with grey hair and a grey mustache, wearing a blue pullover with an orange zipper, a red baseball cap, and sunglasses. The suspect vehicle was seen to have two possible digits of “6” and “7” on the license plate.

Police say they are adding extra officers in school bus areas. Anyone with information is asked to contact the department at (401) 942-2211.
