A subpoena for former Red Sox star, Curt Schilling, to testify on 38 Studios has been signed Monday by House Speaker Mattiello.

Schilling still has not publicly answered questions about the failed 75 million dollar deal.

Lawmakers are hoping this subpoena will lead to some answers, but there are questions over whether the subpoena has any legal standing.

No Rhode Island Speaker has ever issued a subpoena before. Schilling’s attorney declined an invitation sent out earlier this month to appear before the committee.

Speaker Mattiello released a statement Monday afternoon, saying, “The House Oversight Committee voted to take the unprecedented step of issuing the first subpoena and I have given my written approval.  We will use the legal tools at our disposal to serve the subpoena, realizing that all processes have their limitations.  Mr. Schilling should voluntarily testify because he can provide valuable information that the citizens of Rhode Island deserve.”
