One dead following apartment fire in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- A man died on Sunday, after an early morning apartment fire in Providence, according to the Providence Fire Department.
Fire officials said that firefighters found the man in his 60’s on the kitchen floor of his second-floor apartment at Hillcrest Village Apartments.
Rescue crews were able to get the man out of the burning unit. They performed C.P.R. on the scene and then transported the man, who was in critical condition, to Rhode Island Hospital.
The man died at the hospital due to the amount of smoke he inhaled during the fire.
The fire broke out at around 1 a.m., there was heavy smoke showing from the second-floor unit, according the department.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly.
The blaze left the second-flor unit, as well as the unit below it, uninhabitable.
The tenant of the lower unit is being accommodated by the apartment complex.
