Fatal accident closes Route 140 ramp in New Bedford

Massachusetts State Police are investigating a fatal accident on Route 140 in New Bedford.

Troopers closed down the Exit 5 ramp around 10:00 a.m. Tuesday as cruisers arrived on-scene of the single vehicle crash.

State Police have identified the operator of the vehicle, and sole occupant, as 66-year-old Lazaro S. Rosa, of New Bedford. Rosa was pronounced deceased on scene.

The accident is still under investigation, but police say preliminary reports indicate Rosa may have suffered a medical incident prior to the crash.
