PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello says plans to build a stadium for the Pawtucket Red Sox in downtown Providence are less likely to move forward because of new hurdles, including that Brown University wants $10 million for part of the land.

Mattiello says he thought an agreement with Brown was more imminent than it actually is.

The PawSox say Brown wants $10 million for two acres. The state owns the rest of the land. Brown wouldn’t say how much it’s asking, but says it wants to be fully compensated for the land.

Also, Mattiello says the city now wants economic incentives to host a stadium that weren’t considered during negotiations. A city spokesman did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Mattiello says the deal isn’t dead but it faces challenging hurdles.
