GOP front-runner, Donald Trump, crossed into liberal territory Friday night, as car magnate, Ernie Boch Jr., hosted a fundraiser for the candidate at his mansion in Norwood, Massachusetts.
Hundreds of people chanted for the presidential candidate, who was no holds barred, cracking jokes at the well-known car dealer’s summer bash.
"Nobody loves Hispanics like I do. I probably have more than almost anybody working for me," said Trump, who isn’t one for political correctness, and for some, that’s a breath of fresh air.
"I like the no ‘BS’ approach. I think it makes a lot of sense," says John Allevato, resident of Bellingham, Massachusetts.
"I think that he could be someone who could put this country back on a good track again," added Dorothy Dinatale, of West Rockbury.
The decision to invite a republican candidate to one of the most liberal states was an easy one for Boch, who has grown sick of other GOP candidates and sees Massachusetts as a lost cause.
"I thought, why not bring a world figure to my home… hear him speak up close and personal and people can decide," said Boch.
Trump touched on many issues–from the economy, to Governor Charlie Baker’s criticisms on his remarks on women. "He must have been talking about Jeb Bush," exclaimed Trump. He even commented on Tom Brady’s ongoing legal battles, saying, "Leave Tom Brady alone, right? We love Tom Brady!"
Many people tonight seeing Trump as "in-the-bag" but others are not ready to give him their vote just yet.
"Probably about 90 percent. There’s that 10 percent that I need to really get up," said Trump.
Notably, Trump first explained to the crowd that this event was not a fundraiser at all. Each person paid at least one hundred dollars to get into the event, but Trump said he is not actively seeking donors and appreciated people giving back. Trump explained that he ‘has enough money on his own.’
Meanwhile, dozens of protesters tried to trump the party. A local pro-choice group shouted against Trump’s pro-life stance, as other chanted about his proposed immigration plan. Both groups shouted at the property’s entrance for hours.
