Motorcyclist killed in New Bedford crash

New Bedford Police are investigating a motorcycle crash that killed one person Tuesday afternoon.
Officers were dispatched to Kennedy Highway just north of Walnut Street around 1:45 p.m. where the operator, identified as 25-year-old Kevin Pires, of New Bedford, was pronounced deceased on scene.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Pires was heading northbound on Kennedy Highway when he failed to negotiate the curve in the road, striking the curb.
Both the north and southbound lanes of Kennedy highway from Union Street to Walnut Street will remained closed while police and accident reconstruction teams investigate.
Pires was an Emergency Medical Technician who worked for both EasCare and STAT ambulance services.
