A West Virginia man was involved in a fatal accident Thursday morning a short time after 6 a.m. when his tractor trailer had driven off of Route 295 South in Johnston.

Dwight Greenleaf, 59, of Martinsburg, West Virginia, was traveling south when he suffered a medical emergency and lost control of the vehicle. The tractor trailer veered right and traveled 220 feet before entering the wood line coming to a stop after striking a tree.

A witness reported seeing Greenleaf exit his vehicle on his own and then fainting.

Good Samaritans, Troopers on the scene and Johnston fire and Rescue personnel performed CPR before he was transferred to the Rhode Island Hospital where he died a short time after.
