A warning is going out to E-ZPass customers in Rhode Island due to a new email phishing scam.

The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority issued a warning Wednesday for residents to be aware of the scam which directs recipients to pay on past due accounts.

The phishing scam affects 28 million people nationally and internationally.

The fraudulent email says that the recipient has not paid his/her bill and has an outstanding invoice attached.

RITBA says all of its official correspondence has an email ending with ‘@ritba.org’.

RI E-ZPass customers or residents are advised to not open this email and delete it immediately.  For more information you may contact RI E-ZPass at 1-877-743-9727 or visit the E-ZPass Interagency Group’s website at www.e-zpassiag.com.
