New Bedford Police recover semi automatic firearm after vehicle pursuit

A New Bedford man, Nathaniel Miller, 53, was arrested last night after a vehicle pursuit and a brief foot chase; he is scheduled to be arraigned on firearm and motor vehicle charges Tuesday morning.

New Bedford police were targeting the area of Coffin Avenue and Ashley Boulevard after receiving information about an increase of activity in the neighborhood.

At 11:15 police observed a Dodge Caravan leave the area with its headlights off. The vehicle did not pull over for police and gained speed into the area behind Brooklawn Park where it struck a fence.

A .380 semi automatic firearm was discarded during a short foot chase. Miller was taken into custody without incident.
