An infant has died after being delivered by emergency cesarean section after her mother was killed in a single-car crash on a highway in southeastern Connecticut.
A spokeswoman for Women & Infants Hospital says the baby girl died Wednesday night after being delivered at Westerly Hospital on Tuesday.
Connecticut State Police say 26-year-old Alexandra Brown of Niantic was driving southbound on Interstate 95 in Stonington on Tuesday morning when her car went off the road, struck a guardrail and flipped over. Troopers say Brown wasn't wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the car.
Authorities say Brown was nine months pregnant. She leaves behind two other children ages 4 and 7.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
