WARWICK – Cleanup efforts are underway following Tuesday morning's fast-moving storm that barreled through Southern New England.
In Warwick, countless trees were uprooted, often taking down power lines with them.
Ken Secor saw a large oak tree come crashing down around 6 a.m., across the street from his house on Strawberry Field Road. "It was really, really eerie," he said. "You could hear the wind, it was devastating. You thought we were in the middle of a hurricane!"
Secor described the heavy wind and rain as unbelievable. "It was like you were taking a major shower," he said. "It was just pelting, pelting the glass."
Hours later, people in neighborhoods across the city were still dealing with the aftermath. Tree branches and trash from barrels on pickup day littered the streets.
"It's like Armageddon out here," explained fellow Warwick resident Melanie Davidson, saying it was the most destruction she had ever seen at one time.
Crews have been working to keep up with the countless calls as they keep coming in. Right now, there is no telling how long cleanup efforts will take.
