The owners of the Pawtucket Red Sox have returned from a whirlwind trip to Durham, North Carolina, where they were trying to woo critics of a proposed ballpark in Providence.
PawSox spokeswoman Patti Doyle said approximately 45 people had gone to see Durham Bulls Athletic Park, the home of the Durham Bulls, on Wednesday.
The team's ownership group, led by Boston Red Sox President Larry Lucchino, paid for the trip, but Doyle wouldn't disclose costs.
Doyle has said the trip would show people the "transformative effect'' the ballpark had on downtown Durham.
The team wants to build a new stadium on prime riverfront land in Providence owned by the state and Brown University.
The team's original proposal asking for $120 million in state subsidies was rejected by lawmakers.
