A candlelight vigil held was held in Foxboro honoring the 5 marines killed in the Tennessee recruiting center shooting. The devastating tragedy shook the entire country. On Sunday evening hundreds of people came together at the town common to remember the victims.
Five flags were planted firmly in the ground. Each one had a picture of one of the victims on it. Even though they didn't know the servicemen personally, people say they felt a deep connection to the marines. Wearing red and holding old glory close to their hearts grateful Americans turned out to say thank you to the men for their service.
"It's a solemn moment. We're here to pay our respects and honor those who gave their lives to protect the county," said Sgt. Nathaniel Heyward, a local military recruiter.
"We're doing it because it's the right thing to do. No other reason. This is what should be done across America," said Lauren Eliopoulous, organizer for Hero Helpers of America.
Roses were gently placed on the ground. Veterans and those currently serving in the military are appreciative of the gesture.
