New Bedford man facing drug trafficking charges during a traffic stop

NEW BEDFORD, MASS (WLNE) -A New Bedford man is facing numerous charges after a large number of drugs was found in his vehicle Friday afternoon.
The Department says Troopers assigned to the Troop D Community Action Team stopped a 2019 Nissan Altima for suspected illegal window tint at about 5:20 p.m.
The department says troopers observed a knife in plain view and determined the size was in violation of a city ordinance.
The driver, identified as 29-year-old Alex Barboza, from New Bedford was placed under arrest for the city ordinance violation.
During a search of Barboza’s vehicle, Police seized approximately 10 grams of a substance believed to be fentanyl, 100 cartridges of CBD oil, two small bottles of a substance believed to be anabolic steroids and approximately 1 pound of marijuana.
Police say they also seized more than $26k in cash from the vehicle.
Barboza is facing the following charges:
1. Municipal by-law or ordinance violation (knife)
2. Trafficking in Fentanyl
3. Possession of a Class A substance with intent to distribute
4. Possession of a Class C Drug
5. Possession with Intent to distribute a Class D drug (2 counts)
Barboza was transported to the Ash Street Jail in New Bedford pending his arraignment in New Bedford District Court on Monday.
