PawSox Bats Provide No Support for Henry Owens in Loss to Tides

(Pawtucket, RI) – Norfolk starter Tyler Wilson blanked Pawtucket for seven innings and combined with two relievers on a five-hitter as the Tides shut out the Pawtucket Red Sox, 2-0, on Wednesday night before 7,384 fans at McCoy Stadium. Henry Owens allowed just one run in six strong innings of work but was saddled with a tought-luck loss.
Wilson (5-5) allowed five hits and only one walk while striking out four batters as he defeated Pawtucket for the second time in as many weeks. Jorge Rondon pitched a scoreless eighth inning before closer Oliver Drake worked around a pair of ninth-inning walks to record his 16th save of the season.
Owens (3-8) allowed his only run of the night in the top of the second. Steve Clevenger blooped a one-out single and advanced to second on a passed ball before Sean Halton grounded out. Michael Almanzar then lined an RBI double to right-center to put the Tides in front, 1-0.
Owens would settle in an pitch scoreless ball for the remainder of his night. He allowed just five hits and one walk while striking out three in six innings pitched. Reliever Dayan Diaz permitted a run in the seventh on one hit and three walks, one with the bases loaded to Christian Walker.
Pat Light tossed 1.2 perfect innings of relief after Diaz including two punchouts, while Jonathan Aro maneuvered around a walk and a hit-batsman in the ninth to record a scoreless frame.
Norfolk’s Henry Urrutia (2-for-5, double) was the only batter in the contest to record multiple hits. Quintin Berry, Humberto Quintero, Garin Cecchini, Deven Marrero and Marco Hernandez each picked up one of Pawtucket’s five base hits.
The finale of the three-game series and six-game homestand is scheduled for Thursday afternoon with first pitch is slated for 12:05pm. The PawSox will start right-hander Zeke Spruill (4-6, 4.82), while the Tides counter with righty Zach Davies (4-6, 3.02).
