State Police have arrested a former Providence City Council candidate and campaign worker for election fraud.
Franchesco Franco, who ran for Providence City Council Ward 11 in 2014, was arrested Wednesday along with his campaign manager, Migdalia Rivera.
Charges stem from election fraud allegations during the democratic primary.
An investigation began after a complaint was filed by the RI Board of Elections after several suspicious mail ballots were submitted. Investigation later revealed violations of tampering with mail ballots, forging and altering mail ballot affidavits, embezzlement of mail ballots ,and voting with a false address.
Franco and Rivera were arraigned and released on $10,000 personal recognizance pending their next court date in September.
