North Kingstown man to plead guilty to threatening professor

BOSTON (WLNE) – A North Kingstown man agreed to plead guilty Thursday to sending multiple violent and threatening e-mails to a Massachusetts professor, according to the United States Attorney for Massachusetts Andrew Lelling.
Matthew Haviland, 29, who was arrested on April 24 was charged Thursday with one count of stalking and two counts of transmitting a threat in interstate commerce.
Haviland sent 28 emails to the professor on March 10 threatening to kill and rape her because of her pro-abortion views.
Haviland also sent 12 threatening e-mails to a professional school at the university where the professor teaches.
The terms of a plea agreement say the government will recommend to the court a sentence of 21 months in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine.
A plea hearing has not been scheduled yet.
