Bomb squad investigate in Wrentham, “high potential” for explosion

A road in Wrentham was closed for hours Thursday as hazmat crews and the bomb squad investigated an area at “high risk” of explosion.
Wrentham Police and Fire were called to the residence at 500 West Street after a chemical spill in the a greenhouse created a strong odor. On scene, crews located unknown products and a quantity of blasting caps—small explosives devices used to detonate larger explosive devices.
Police say the potential for explosion and pesticide exposure was high, prompting a lockdown in the neighborhood and surrounding streets. Residents were sheltering in place as Route 121, between Bennett Street and Green Street was closed for four hours.
Officials say the scene was contained and stable during the ivestigation and no one was injured.
The streets were reopened around 7 p.m. after the blasting caps, which were over 50 years old, were safely removed.
