A Superior Court judge has vacated the conviction of a man sentenced to the 1982 murder of Doreen Picard over 20 years ago.

Raymond Tempest was found guilty in 1992 for the 1982 murder of the 22-year-old homecoming queen.

Tempest lawyers claimed such new evidence came to light such as false or coerced testimony at the original trial and new DNA evidence that found that hair clutched in the victims hand was not Tempest’s.

Tempest was not released Monday and is scheduled to have a bail hearing August 4. The Attorney General's office plans to appeal, and re-try the case if need be.
