Man charged with 1st degree murder in Providence homicide

The Providence County Grand Jury has indicted and charged a man in the killing of Ashley Masi, the first homicide of the year in Providene.

28-year-old Daniel Tejeda was charged with first degree murder in the killing of 24-year-old Masi on March 31st, 2015.

Masi was found unresponsive in the bedroom of her River Avenue home. She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where she was pronounced deceased by way of strangulation. 

After an investigation by Providence Police, it was learned that Tejeda responded to an advertisement for escort services that Masi posted on Backpage.com at the time of her murder.

Tejeda is currently being held at the Wyatt Detention Facility in Central Falls. An arraignment has not yet been scheduled.

Providence Police Chief Hugh Clements said, “This case is yet another example of the outstanding police work that is done by members of the Providence Police Detective Bureau each and every day. I commend our detectives who worked tirelessly on this case to bring the suspect to justice.”
