ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) – Matt Andriese and three relievers combined on a three-hitter, Jake Elmore hit a two-run homer and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Boston Red Sox 4-1 on Saturday.
Andriese (3-2) retired his first 11 batters before allowing his lone baserunner, coming on a two-out single in the fourth by Xander Bogaerts. The rookie struck out five in a career-high six innings as the Rays rebounded from a 4-3, 10-inning loss to the Red Sox Friday night.
Wade Miley (7-7) gave up two runs, five hits, two walks and struck out eight over 6 1-3 innings for Boston. The left-hander entered 3-0 with an 0.47 ERA in three previous starts against Tampa Bay.
After Jake McGee threw a perfect seventh, Kevin Jepsen gave up a solo homer in the eighth to Alejandro De Aza, who went deep for the second time in the last three games. Brad Boxberger allowed a single in a scoreless ninth for his 20th save.
