NEW BEDFORD – Loved ones of a New Bedford teen gunned down Thursday are trying to find a way to cover his funeral costs.
They came together Sunday to play a charity basketball game in his honor. Marcelo Jean-Francois, 19, was killed in Harrington Park. He had two young children.
His brother, Christian, remembers him as the kind of person who would do anything for those he loved. “I loved him as a brother, he loved me,” Christian told ABC6 News. “He was my role model. I wish he was here right now.”
Around 50 people came to watch and play in the game. Players chipped in $10 a piece.
Jean-Francois’ family will be creating an online fundraiser to help pay for funeral expenses. In the meantime, folks interested in donating can email Nadege Joseph at yayouse0528@gmail.com.
