A man who was arrested after allegedly robbing a restaurant with a machete Friday afternoon in New Bedford is facing an armed robbery charge.

Police arrested Harold Gierbolini, 38, whose residence is not immediately available, after allegedly robbing a Subway located on Nauset Street with a machete on June 19th at 2:45 p.m.

Officials say Gierbolini went to the Subway asking for job applications and returned later with a machete, went behind the counter, demanded cash and fled with an unknown amount of money.

He fled towards railroad tracks where a Patrolman found a man matching the same description. They found a shirt and machete nearby as well.

Police brought the suspect back to the subway where the employees positively identified him and the cash was returned to the store.

Gierbolini is scheduled for arraignment June 22nd in the New Bedford District Court.
