Hillary Clinton attends fundraiser in RI

Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton made a return trip to Rhode Island on Wednesday.

The former first lady attended a private fundraiser in East Greenwich. The event was co-hosted by former Rhode Island Democratic party Chairman Mark Weiner and former Providence Mayor Joe Paolino.

We’re told the event raised more than $300,000.

“Very exciting she was fantastic as she always is. Very substantive. She focused on ideas for how to bring the middle class back in Rhode Island and in America. She really focused on economic growth which is what we need,” said General Treasurer Seth Magaziner.

We’re told the presidential candidate spoke for about 25 minutes.

“It was really informative to hear from her. She really has her stump speech down, very well articulated,” said State Rep. Joe Shekarchi.

“The campaigns just getting going, it’s early days,” said Clay Pell. “I think she also came off as having energy and just really being up for the challenge.”

Mrs. Clinton and her husband have always been very popular in Rhode Island. During her last presidential run her winning margin in the state was huge. Now, 8 years later we know she will go up against former Rhode Island Governor, Lincoln Chafee. We asked the current state party Chairman for his thoughts on that.

“I think that Governor Chafee is a gracious gentleman that’s done a lot for our state. But, I don’t think he has the support of the leadership of the party,” said Joseph McNamara.
