PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello says the Rhode Island House won’t consider public funding for a proposed new stadium for the Pawtucket Red Sox before the session ends next week.

Mattiello says House lawmakers would never be ready because there’s “too much legwork” to be done.

The team’s owners and lawmakers are working on a deal. The team’s original proposal for $120 million in state subsidies for a stadium in downtown Providence was rejected.

Mattiello says lawmakers may need to hold a special session in the fall to consider a new proposal.

He says they may also need to discuss a proposal for a new toll on large commercial trucks in the fall.

But Mattiello says he’s unsure either issue would bring them back.

He says he’d decide after adjournment.
