Providence to add 700 metered spaces

By The Associated Press
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Providence is adding about 700 new metered parking spaces that take credit and debit cards.
The Providence Journal reports that the spaces will be added to Federal Hill, Hope Street and Wayland Square.
Mayor Jorge Elorza presented his proposed 2015-16 city budget last month anticipating the collection money outside of raising taxes. Elorza’s proposed budget anticipates $4.2 million in parking-meter revenue _ about $1.7 million more than this year.
There are currently around 1,400 metered parking spaces.
The new black box meters can handle a dozen or more parking spaces.
