How it Happened in Game 1
Ryan Olmo knocked a two-out single through the left side to drive in Chris Hess and Connor Foreman and put Rhode Island up 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth. 

The Rams got another two-out run in the eighth, this time off the bat of pinch-hitter Nick DeRegis, who ripped an opposite field double to push across Foreman and make it a 3-0 game.

Davidson’s lone run of the game came in the top of the ninth with two away.

Starter Lou Distasio picked up the win, recording six strikeouts in as many innings before Brendan Doonan tossed the final three frames for his first career save.

How it Happened in Game 2

Similar to in Game 1, Rhody first got on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. Hess crossed the plate first – on an RBI groundout by Jordan Powell – before Olmo made it 2-0 on a passed ball.

DeRegis hit his second two-out double of the day in the bottom of the sixth, took third on a passed ball and later scored on a passed ball for the 3-0 Rhody advantage.

The Rams added two more in the fifth as Tim Caputo scored on a bases-loaded walk by Mike Corin and Foreman scored on a groundout by Olmo.

Tyler Wilson cruised through eight innings, allowing just three hits while fanning six. Brad Applin took the hill in the top of the ninth and needed just nine pitches to end things with a groundout and two strikeouts.

Inside the Box Scores

  • Distasio (2-4) earned the win in Game 1, while Wilson (3-0) grabbed the W in Game 2.
  • Wilson posted his fourth-consecutive quality start in Game 2, going 8.0 innings with zero runs allowed. The rookie southpaw leads Rhode Island’s starters with a 1.45 ERA over a team-high 37.1 innings pitched. He has allowed just 16 hits in his six appearances (five starts) and boasts a team-best 33 strikeouts.
  • Doonan picked up his first career save in Game 1. He allowed a pair of hits and one unearned run over the final three innings.
  • Applin shut things down quickly in the ninth inning of Game 2, getting two strikeouts and a ground-out to end things in 1-2-3 fashion. On the season, he has fanned 13 while issuing just one free pass.
  • Offensively, the Rams combined to outscore Davidson 8-1 on the day.
  • Rhody finished with 10 two-out hits and three two-out RBI.
  • The Rhody pitching staff allowed just one run – which was unearned – over a combined 18 innings. Junior Lou Distasio, redshirt senior Brendan Doonan, freshman Tyler Wilson and junior Brad Applin held Davidson to just 10 hits and a .164 batting average on the day.
  • Junior Connor Foreman led the way with a 4-for-7 day at the plate, extending his team-leading hit streak to nine games. He also scored three runs and stole a base for the Rams.
  • Redshirt freshman Chris Hess and senior Tim Caputo each had three hits in the doubleheader. Hess also crossed the plate twice while Caputo scored once.
  • Senior Nick DeRegis finished with two hits on the day – both doubles – scored once and drove in a run.
  • Junior Ryan Olmo and redshirt junior Derek Gardella each had a pair of hits as well. Olmo also dove in three runs and scored once.
  • Senior Mike Sherburne reached and had a stolen base in each game. He leads the team with 12 steals on the season.
