Meredith Vieira was in Rhode Island Monday to celebrate her talk show signing on for a second season. The last time ABC 6 sat down with Meredith, it was just days before the launch of her new show. There was a lot excitement then, but also some uncertainty. Now, she says the experience has been a whirlwind adventure and she’s humbled to be able to keep it going.

“It’s scary, it’s scary to have a show with your name on it and to have a staff that’s been put together that believes in you. Also, I’m asking a lot of an audience to say sit with me for an hour, I better deliver something,” Meredith said in an interview with ABC 6 in August 2014.

Today, she can set those fears aside knowing her show will be on for a second season.

“We found out fairly early which is great, but you couldn’t really totally relax. But you thought, okay, we know we’re coming back instead of worrying we can focus on the show and making it as good as possible and not constantly looking over your shoulder so that’s been great,” Meredith explained.

Meredith was in town giving the commencement speech at Boston University and had to pass through her home state to celebrate the show’s success, and reminisce a little about her childhood at Roger Williams Park. Vieira grew up in Warren.

“The minute we drove in it was like getting transported back to my past. My mom used to take me and my brother Jeff because we didn’t go to camp, so that was camp. We could fish, I’m not sure if you were allowed to, but we did. My mom would let us ride the carousel as long as we wanted,” she recalled.

Meredith is incredibly accomplished in her career and admits she went against a lot of her friends warnings about taking on her own show.

“It’s not easy being at the helm of your own show and having the responsibility of all those people who work for you. That’s a significant paycheck for all of them as well so I don’t take it lightly. People will say you know its just television and I say I know that but I want to do it well,” she explained.

That being said, she says the experience and the people have been incredible.

“If the show went away tomorrow and please God no it’s not going to, we have affected so many lives and changed so many lives and that really is what we were setting out to do and that we have done,” Meredith said.

The Meredith Vieira show is moving to a new time here on ABC 6. You can watch it at 4 p.m. starting June 1st followed by ABC 6 news at five.
